Canvas bag, 19 inches tall by 13" wide. Measuring 10 inches down from the top, it reads, horizontally, in letters 1/2 inch tall: "U.S. Mint / Carson City / Nevada." On the reverse is written 5/8.5 in purple ink. The Mint opened in 1870. It operated 1870 until 1885, then resumed again from 1889-1893. The building later served as the US Assay Office. Coins with the "CC" mark are highly sought-after. The mint used silver from the nearby Comstock Lode mining district.
