1868 cover with 2 cents Blackjack and green 10 cents to Capt. James Jones, London England. From Silver Mountain California. Via Queenstown. London Paid, New York Paid, Silver Mountain front cancels. London back cancel. Captain James Jones on Ship Primrose bound for New Castle, Wales, miles out from Aberport had his ship spring a leak on 12/3/1870. Letter and newspaper clipping of local affairs included. Letter is from F.A.S. Jones, brother of Cpt. Jones. He lived in Markleeville, Ca and was elected as a delegate to the Democratic State Convention. In 12/68 he worked on Tarshish Ledge, Michigan Tunnel in Silver Mountain. in 8/74 he was the Alpine County recorder and later moved to Washington, CA and bought Yuba Mining And Milling mill. He was also an officer of Mt. Bullion Tunnel Co in 1863, Silver Mountain. He was known as an old resident of Monitor, CA and probably a pioneer of Silver Mountain.
