Electric Power Transmission Plants and the use of Electricity in Mining Operations: By LEGGETT, Thomas Haight. Sacramento 1894. The author reviews the first use of electric motors in the Bodie Mines, Mono County, California 45 pp. Hard bound, Illustrated with photographs, diagrams, and charts. Prior to 1894, mills in Bodie and elsewhere were powered by steam. Leggett, the superintendent of the Standard Mine, devised a method for providing electricity from a plant on Green Creek, thirteen miles distant. Though referred to during construction as "Leggetts Folly," the project was a resounding success. This booklet describes its plan and execution. Leggett went on to establish similar power plants as far away as South Africa. Previous owner's name on front cover, wrappers chipped over spine, front cover chipped and only tenuously attached, good condition.
