Welcome to a Hauntingly Good timed auction!
We have selected about 1800 lots for your perusal in a two-day timed auction.
We have picked out a wide variety of great stuff – from true individual item rarities to very popular collecting categories such as mining, numismatics, philatelics, sports and a great selection of western history and collectibles libraries.
The largest section by far is numismatics, with about 300 lots! Here, you’ll find an excellent cross section of rarities in many subject areas. Some of the highlights are many silver ingot lots that include two US Mint, San Francisco 5 ounce ingots and a wide variety of small collector commemorative silver ingots. There are about 50 lots of currency including some nice fractional currency lots, not to mention a nice scrip section. There are about 65 lots of medals and nearly the same of tokens. So-Called dollars also join in the mix along with numismatic ephemera highlighted by an original Carson City Mint US Dollar bag!
Philatelics, inclusive of postcards, contain over 200 lots, with some nice lots of advertising covers, stamp collections, and some really good imprinted revenue stamp collections, as well as adhesive revenue on document groups. The post cards come from three different collections, and center on California, especially the Nevada County region.
Sports contains about 50 lots in this section, highlighted by signed baseballs (Willie Mays, etc) and a wonderful original decoy duck collection from the Gary Bracken Collection – the one he had on display in his law office.
The Stock & Bond section is also approaches 300 lots, with specialty categories of mining and railroad, though don’t miss the telephone & telegraph, auto and other parts! The stock and bond section is again full of goodies, with most of the better material saved for the upcoming live auction, where you’ll see some truly great rarities from the John Herzog Collection, as well as various California collections.
Mining and minerals contain about 150 lots of a wide variety of goodies from several collections.
The art section is about 50 lots, containing lithographs, prints, sculptures.
Books and autographs are about 130 lots, centering on western history and collectibles.
The antique bottle section again has a great selection of about 150 lots, mostly from the Bracken Collection (mid-west and Colorado) and western collections. You’ll find more beer trays and bottle collecting ephemera too.
Gary Bracken’s massive collections included some fantastic general store items, particularly tins from the 1870s-1940 or so. We will be offering a smidgen of these wonderful artifacts as a “teaser”, with most of the best reserved for our next large Live auction, which we hope will be in November.
Our general ephemera section is always a big hit. Here, you’ll find selections from the Jann Garvis Sierra County and Gold Rush Collections and other California and Montana collections.
American check collections are scattered throughout the catalog, and can be found in the ephemera and philatelic sections, though you should peruse the entire catalog. We have many lots of imprinted revenue stamps on check and document that have come in from all over the country. We also put
