There are two reloading blocks for brass hulled 12 gauge shotgun shells in this lot. The hulls included are all 2.5 in. shells indicating usage from the 1870's to 1890's. The three brands of hulls are: W.R.A. & co. (Winchester Repeating Arms Co.), Rem.-UMC (Remington- Union Metallic Cartridge Co.), and Remington-Best. There are 28 hulls total. These reloading blocks are specific to their purpose. The 90 holed block captures the hull at the base so it can't move; black powder is measured and dropped into each hole and secured with two over-cards to separate the powder from shot and cushion the shot at ignition. The 50 holed block also captures the hull and each hole is funneled for a shot drop; later secured by another over card. 12 ga. hulls are reproduced today by Track of the Wolf for $8 ea. These reloading blocks were made precisely and would have been used by an extensive hunter, trap shooter, or gun club. Please see photo for details.
