1843 $2.50, PCGS XF40, Gold Pinch, SS Central America Treasure. There only five 1843-O US $2.50 coins found in passenger gold in the debris field. This is another coin that was well distributed among different passenger gold.

The $2.50 gold coin was the "workhorse" gold coin of the Gold Rush period. It was equivalent to the Benjamin Franklin $100 bill of today (the inflation calculator places the value at $96.42).
