1850 $2.50, PCGS XF40, Gold Pinch, SS Central America Treasure. Fifteen of these coins were found in the passenger gold in the debris field. The $2.50 is the workhorse coin of the Gold Rush era, equating to $100 today. The 1850 date is also significant because it represents passenger gold coming originally from the East coast, probably by would-be miners; it then went into circulation in California, only to be on the way back to New York in 1857.
