12 pages with map. "Report of the Gold Deposites [sic.] and Works of the Perseverance Mining Company in North Carolina. By Philip T. Tyson." Specifically, this report focuses on the Russel Mines, located in Montgomery County. Gold-bearing slates. Map is 8.75" x 8" and is referenced throughout the report. Tyson suggests additional roads to fix hauling problems, an open cut across the property, and refurbishing of the cabins. He also mentions that the apparently high silver content in the ore investigated (~23%) may be a good indication of more silver below. Philip T. Tyson (1799-1877) was an important geologist and chemist who went to the California gold fields in 1849 and published " Geology and Industrial Resources of California" (1851). He later was a central researcher in Maryland, conducting the first detailed survey of the state. Printed by John D. Toy, Baltimore, 1853. Not original covers. Toning to pages. 8.5" x 5.5" City: Montgomery County State: North Carolina Date: ID# 34847
