Addressed to Colonel Seaborn Jones, chairman. Jones was a two-term Congressman. From William Rutherford. Professor William Rutherford of Georgia had a mine named for him on the Ralston Branch. He was also one of the owners. The name was later changed to the McAfee-Lynn Mine. Great content. Rutherford is willing to give Jones his stock number 1081 and 1/8 of stock number 1195. Later he asks Jones if he will buy him out??? Other quotes include, "old like the black mines." "very favorable a good prospect." "a continuous vein or many veins," "near Ralston Bridge," "but I have suspended after the spending of nine or ten dollars until I hear your notion on the subject," and "don't dally." In the letter Rutherford also mentions that he has corresponded with General Lawton and the General thinks there will be great profits from this mine. Lawton was a Confederate General who was wounded at Antietam and the president of the Savannah and Augusta Railroad. Two letter size pages. Writing is heavy and bleeding through. Seal missing. Mathematical doodling on the edges. Overall in nice condition! (Al Adams Gold Rush Memorabilia Collection) Date: 1854 Location: Dahlonega, Georgia HWAC# 57058
