Very rare Gold Rush era. Executors Notice to the Creditors of Thomas Robbins. Signed by the executor Lewis T. Burton, who served under John C. Fremont and was the first mayor of Santa Barbara in 1850. Thomas Robbins was a pioneer of Santa Barbara and a sea captain. Robbins acquired large land holdings, including the 3,000 grant to Rancho Las Positas granted to him by Governor Pio Pico in 1846. That same year, Governor Pico granted Robbins Santa Catalina Island. This grant was the last official act of the last Mexican governor of Alta California. Four years later, in August 1850, Robbins sold the island for $10,000 to Jose Maria Covarrubias. 9.5 x 7.75"
