The Sacramento Directory for the Years 1861 and 1862 compiled by H.J. Bidleman and published by John J. Murphy. Quebedeaux states that, "Without a doubt, this is one of the most fascinating of Sacramento directories of the 1860s. Both Bidleman and Murphy were well-known citizens at the time, and their directory for 1861-62 is noted for its local timetables, including one for the Pony Express." The Pony Express timetable is on page 163. This directory begins with a Historical Review of the City of Sacramento which includes information about its city government, courts, schools, churches, societies, military companies, fire department, telegraph companies, agriculture, etc. Directory contains an alphabetical list of residents, their occupations, and their addresses. Also contains a classified business directory. Appendix includes information about post offices, postal rates, Pony Express timetable, and 1850 and 1860 U.S. census numbers. Business advertisements on the covers and throughout the pages. 8.75 x 5.5, good condition, many pages have pink stains on them.
