Mears' Sacramento Directory for the Years 1863-1864. This directory begins with a Historical Review of the City of Sacramento which includes information about early settlement, John Sutter, and the Gold Rush. This historical review also lists federal, state, county, and city government officials including President Abraham Lincoln and Governor Leland Stanford. The historical review also contains a discussion of Sacramento's courts, churches, cemeteries, societies, newspapers, schools, railroads, military organizations, stage routes, fire department, agriculture, etc. The Historical Review is followed by the City Directory which alphabetically lists residents, their occupations, and their addresses. There is a classified business directory at the end of the book. The appendix lists Sacramento post offices, postage rates, and Pacific Coast post offices. The appendix also has the 1850 and 1860 census numbers which include free and enslaved people. There are business advertisements in the front and back pages. 9 x 5.5, fragile, binding is damaged and some pages are loose.
