On December 19, 1862 Van Sickle was granted a toll road. The next day the territorial legislature levied a 2% tax on toll roads to build schools. This letter talks about the toll road, "has been used almost exclusively by myself" and "I have never charged or received any money", and besides "The high waters of the present year have destroyed a considerable portion." Includes back ground notes on this important early Nevada figure, especially his killing of the notorious Sam Brown! State: Nevada Territory City: Genoa, Douglas Date: HWAC# 99487
