Napoleon III invaded the Mexican Republic in 1861 and installed Maximillian as Emperor of Mexico in 1864, replacing president Benito Juarez. This medal from 1866-1867 shows the conjoined busts of Emperor Maximilian and his wife Carlota (Charlotte) of Mexico. Ocampo signature below the busts. Arms of the Empire of Mexico on the reverse.
