Union ticket for the 1867 California gubernatorial race in California. George C. Gorham for Governor, John P. Jones for Liet. Governor, etc. Reverse features a red and white American flag and "The Red, White and Blue / Liberty / and / Union." 10.5 x 3" Folds, small tears and light edge wear. This ticket lost that election. John P. Jones is well-known to Nevada collectors and historians. After mining in the California Gold Rush, Jones came to the Comstock Lode in 1868 and managed the Crown Point Mine in Gold Hill. He made a fortune by acquiring shares in the Crown Point when it struck a rich ore body. In 1873, he became a U.S. Senator for Nevada and served five terms.
