1872 Cast iron Metal Fabricating Equip, Possibly planchet strip cutter, 14" long, 10" tall, 10" wide. About 10 pounds. There are four patent dates on this machine, the earliest is Jan. 2, 1872. The second is June 6, 1876. There is no patent number anywhere.
This piece was found in an old mill building in Gold Hill about 50 years ago.
The heavy cast iron construction would indicate metal work. It has several break areas, but is mostly intact. It appears to have been a device that fit onto the top of another. The two cast iron sharp blades would appear to be place at intervals to cut thin sheets of metal at about 6" intervals. Found in an old mill building in Gold Hill, it must have been used in the shop, possibly for repairs using metal plates of copper, brass or steel.

On January 2, 1872, there were 237 patents issued. There is only one that is even close, a copper item cutting device, but the patent sketch is not the same. Often on items of this nature, each patent is for a part, not the whole, so it makes it much more difficult. We reviewed all 237 patent sketches.
