Stereoview showing the elaborate glass display of the New England Glass Company at the exhibition. Medium contrast, some soiling. 4x7" Centennial Photographic Co. The New England Glass Company (1818–1878) was established in 1818 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As one of the first glass companies to use a steam engine to power its cutting machines, they manufactured both blown and pressed glass objects in a variety of colors with engraved, cut, etched, and gilded decorations. They also built the only oven in the country that could manufacture red lead, a key ingredient in the making of flint glass. It was considered one of the leading glasshouses in the United States, best known for its cut and engraved glass. Date: Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania HWAC # 50998
