Hand signed authorization for sick leave and pay issued to Captain John Vader Wiele stained at Fort Griffin in West Texas. He is allowed leave from November 1-30 and will receive a month's salary $200, based on his $2400 annual salary.
Fort Griffin was along the cattle trail that would eventually lead to Dodge City, Ks and was put in place to guard against raids for the nearby Kiowa and Comanche tribes. It also served as a pass through for such famous western personalities as Wyatt Earp, Doc Holiday, Pat Garret and others.
An interesting and unique Old West collector item.
