Great postal history envelope with a corner advertising from "The Chloride Belt." Excellent double ring, large, magenta cancel. The Chloride Belt was started by famous Nevada newspaperman W. W. Booth on June 21, 1890 when Candelaria experienced a revival. He quickly lost interest and sold it later that year. The last edition was printed on December 24, 1892 - a few weeks before this letter was sent. The letter is not kind to Nevada. The author (Lawrence) is heading to Independence, California with an opportunity to buy the 'Index.' As for Nevada, "...Candelaria and for that matter the whole State of Nevada is played out..." "A few years ago there were several hundred men working here. Now there are less than 75..." "I have not so bad here. We own our own office building and residence and have a complete printing plant beside all free of debt." Other interesting observations on the area. City: Candelaria State: Nevada Date: 1893 ID# 37527
