Made the 26th Day of August, 1786. An indenture between Asa Abbot of Johnstown and the Loan-Officers of Montgomery County. For consideration of 14 pounds, Abbott receives lot number 48. The city of Johnstown in Montgomery County New York was settled in 1762 by William Johnson and named after his son John. But the Johnson family were loyal to the British and their holdings were confiscated during the Revolution. This indenture was written during the war for Independence! Johnstown is located along the southern edge of Fulton County, in the picturesque Mohawk Valley of upstate New York. The 12 x 18 inch document is housed in a 13 x 20 hard plastic case.
