Engraving at top reads: "Presented to Bert Seaboldt by Manuel Alvarez at (illegible) Cuba, Dec 13, 1904." Approx. 36.5" Silver cap. Wood in good condition. Few dings to cap.

Bert Seaboldt was a prominent Utah mining figure who, with his partner Samuel Gilson, helped promote gilsonite in the 1880s. In 1886, Gilson and Seaboldt filed claims in Northeastern Utah. Seaboldt was successful in having his claims removed from Uintah Reservation (Northern Ute Tribe). In 1888, they formed the Gilsonite Manufacturing Company which organized in Salt Lake City. Seaboldt also served as an engineer for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad.

Seaboldt's trip to Cuba in 1904 is proven by an S.S. Havana ship manifest from December 23, 1904 for passengers arriving in New York from Havana. Seaboldt is listed as an engineer. (See photo)
