1905 Map of the City of San Jose and Vicinity by J. G. McMillan, copyright 1904. This is a large, canvas-mounted diazo-printed plat map with blue lines on cream-colored paper, 82 inches wide and 68 inches tall, hung from a 7-foot-long, 1-1/2-inch steel pipe, and supported by a 7-foot-long wooden rod at the bottom. Among the notable features to be found on this map are the red-outlined boundaries of the cities of San Jose, east San Jose, and Santa Clara, California, labeled with tracts such as Pueblo Tract No. 1, San Juan Bautista or Narvaez Rancho, Los Coches Rancho, Chapman Davis Tract. Other locations of note are the Hotel Vendome (long gone), Remillard Brick Co., Bray Subdivision in Santa Clara, Washington Square and the State Normal School in the center of San Jose (now the location of San Jose State University), St. James Square (still there), and Guadalupe Creek (now generally the route of the Guadalupe Freeway). The Mount Diablo Meridian Line passes vertically near the center of the map, and T7S R1W marks Township 7 West, Range 1 West of the Geodetic Survey. This is a spectacular map in excellent condition with no tears or holes. J. G. McMillan's name appears on numerous maps of this area for this time period. State: California City: San Jose Date: 1905
