A 1920s Dictaphone wax cylinder dictation machine made by The Dictaphone Corporation in New York. The user would push the button on the mouthpiece and speak into it while a cylinder began turning. The sound would run down the tube and vibrate a needle which would cut grooves in the wax tape. In order to listen to the recording, the mouth piece would be detached and replace with stethoscope style ear phones. Each tape could hold 1200 to 1500 words and could be reused 100 to 200 times by shaving the surface of the tape off.
