Several nations boycotted the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. In response, the United States Gymnastics Federation invited competitors from other boycotting nations to participate in the USGF International Invitational in Hartford, Connecticut, that same year. Participating nations included Canada, China, Israel, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, Switzerland, the USA, and West Germany. The obverse of this 63mm medal bears the insignia of the United States Gymnastics Federation and is edge-marked "(C) MEDALLIC ART CO. - DANBURY, CT - NICKEL SILVER" and the reverse is simply embossed with the words "INTERNATIONAL INVITATIONAL R 1980." The medal shows some handling wear and spotting, but every bit of detail is well-presented.This comes from the liquidation of Northwest Territorial Mint.
