Stage Coach-style trunk, with an indented junction between the top and lower body. Leather end handles. Leather covered wood, square nail construction. Five metal straps surround, held by 1/2" brass rivets. Two leather straps attach top to lower portion with buckles. Skeleton key style brass locking mechanism on the front center (no key). Wall paper lined interior, including the top portion with a panel closure. 27" long, 15" wide, 14" tall. significant wear. No indication of maker, no personalized names found. These trunks differ significantly from the classic steamer trunks, which were usually fully rectangular, as found on the SS Central America. Our guess is that this trunk is mid-19th century. We have not had one of this style before (decades).
