A 5 ½ inch barrel Artillery Colt Single Action Army With the usual multitude of serial numbers and inspectors marks. This excellent condition Artillery Colt has serial numbers and markings dating from 1874-1877 with a Grip Cartouche very clear on the left side grip of Ordinance Inspector Capt. Frank Heath 1884-85. This Single Action Colt Appears to have a lot of remaining case and blue color as well as excellent left grip cartouche markings. Front sight fanning marks still remain on both sides of the front sight which is almost always worn off. The barrel appears to have been inspected by Henry Nettleton and the backstrap was inspected by Ainsworth. The backstrap serial number is 4818 which is in the range of known Custer era Colts serial #s; 4812, 4815 and 4865. This Colt is in fine original condition as well mechanical condition. The upper left hand grip appears to have purposeful notched marks in it typically denoting ‘Kill ‘marks or’ Notched gun handle’. Early two line pat’d dates on frame with the marking “U S’. An extremely nice ‘non messed with’ Artillery Colt that would be an excellent addition to an advanced Colt Collector Collection. State: City: Date: FHWAC#: 42733
