This is a special collection of counters with a 1913 dated Liberty obverse and differing reverses. It includes most of the reverse varieties, from the classic American gold coin-styled eagle, to jeton, speil marke, and other reverses. This is a large collection, which took years to assemble. Many are gold plated, uncirculated specimens, others may be silver plate or white metal varieties. Please see the photo or call the office for more details. The question for the advanced collector: Why the 1913 date? Why was it so important to make more than 40 different varieties? Where and how were they distributed? Curiously, the 1913-1918 period is a period of change for US minor coinage, but not for gold coinage. Lot of 40 counters dated 1913, in the size of a U.S. $2 1/2 gold piece. Die varieties: 1913-100/ E 2235 (wm); 1913-100/ E 2235 (Br); 1913-100/ E 560; 1913-105/ E 2210; 1913-105/ E 560; 1913-106; 1913-107/ E 565; 1913-107/ E 2210; 1913-107/ E 2235; 1913-108; 1913-110/ E 2210; 1913-110/ E 2215; 1913-115/ E 2210; 1913-120; 1913-125/ E 2210; 1913-125/ E 2270; 1913-126; 1913-130/ E 2225; 1913-130/ E 2231; 1913-131; 1913-135/ E 2271; 1913-140/ E 2245; 1913-140/ E 2250 (Cu); 1913-140/ E 2250 (Br);1913-145/ E 2260; 1913-145/ E2280; 1913-155/ E 2280 (Wm); 1913-155/ E 265; 1913-155/ E 2280 (Br); 1913-160/ E 2250(Br); 1913-160/ E 2250 (Wm); 1913-160/ E 2265; 1913-165/ E 2260; 1913-166; 1913-170/ E 2255 (Wm); 1913-170/ E 2255 (Br); 1913-175/ E 2280 (Cu); 1913-175/ E 2280 (Wm); 1913-180/ E 2265 (Cu); 1913-180/ E 2265 (Wm).
