1) Rarity-5. Very early! Strong blue postmark with grid cancel. Clifton post office had been the official post office for this area up to the time of Austin. This was sent one week after Clifton post office was closed. Coincidence? 2) Rarity-5. Very good strike. Although there is no year, this is 1864 by deduction by Gamett collection. Among other things, the cancel after this one was in use staring on February 15, 1865. This is the second cancel used (size matches Gamett & Nelson's work and Gruber's work documented the only target cancel as type # 2) therefore, must be October 21, 1864. In ten days, Nevada would become a state, but this cover was sent during Territorial days. City:Austin, Lander Co. State:Nevada Date:1864
