Both contain contents. 1) Earliest Sweetwater postmark with ties to 'The Rocket' on Mono Lake. 1882. Only known Sweetwater manuscript cancel (Gamett & Nelson). Rarity-4. Includes Letter of Administration for Mr. Simpkins. Letter addressed to Mr. George Hawkins. Extensive biographies of Clara Thomson (soon to be Mrs. Hawkins) and George Hawkins. Both come from early Nevada settlers. George was an apprentice in the V& T Railroad shops in Carson City, ran 'The Rocket' on Mono Lake for two years, worked at the Standard Mill in Bodie, and dug artesian wells in the Carson City area. 2) Columbus Manuscript cancel on cover with post office business. 1890. Rarity-5. Biography of addressee JHB Harris - a postmaster indicted for 'unlawfully and knowing deliver obscene mail'. He is also in trouble as the cover states that he has been 'absent 1 week'. No postmark or cancel on the2c green stamp, so it must have been official business.
