Three beautiful copper medallions which were probably production tests and rescued from scrap during the liquidation of Northwest Territorial Mint in 2016. The first is 2-1/2 inches in diameter made for the Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention at the University of Wisconsin. The obverse design includes the initials WU-CTRI over a stylized tree with EST. 1992 on a ribbon at the base of the tree. The reverse is a cartouche suitable for personalized engraving surrounded by laurel leaves. The second is also 2-1/2 inches in diameter and made for the Thunderbird Ski Race in Adams, Massachusetts. The 1/4-inch outer edge of the metal bears the name in raised lettering surrounded by black enamel. The interior bas relief design shows a silhouette of a skier going downhill past a mixed forest of conifers and deciduous trees behind which is seen the top of the Mount Greylock Tower peeking over the tree line. The obverse and the blank reverse are both treated with an brushed antique finish that highlights the detail of the engraving. The third and largest medallion, at 3-inches in diameter, is for the Apperson Society, Lake George Land Conservancy and shows an image of a boater on Lake George with Dome Island in the background. This medal has been given an antiqued finish and the reverse is completely flat as if it was designed to be mounted onto a surface.
