S. S. Lurline dinner menus, three total. One with six autographs presumably by table mates, and one with Hemingway Poem. Artist unknown. The first of many artistic Matson Line menus. During the life of the Matson Line shipping life they commissioned several artist to supply them with art work. EUGENE SAVAGE: commissioned in 1940 to paint murals for various cruise ships, there were none applied until 1947 because of world War two. By that time Matson Lines no longer desired murals so they were used as menu covers. Savage is the most famous of all the artist used by Matson. LOUIS MACOUILLARD: Was a Bay Area artist best known for his watercolors. JOHN KELLEY: 1879-1962, Honolulu artist who specialized in Polynesian figures and landscapes. FRANK MCINTOSH: Many of his work is displayed in several national museums. He was commissioned by Matson in the post WWII era. City: State: Hawaii Date: 1941 HWAC# 52046
