A lot of 4 revenue stamped checks between 1869 and 1870 from Virginia City, Nevada and from the Agency of the Bank of California and signed by John Mackay. Mackay was an immigrant from Dublin, Ireland and gained his wealth and fame from being one of the "Bonanza Kings," a group who made millions off of mines on the Comstock Lode. One of the checks is written to Joseph Fredericks & Co. (a furniture maker) likely to furnish the Mackay Mansion.
