The Indian Head Half Eagle $5 gold coin was designed by sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt and was struck by the US Mint from 1908 to 1916 and again in 1929. They are somewhat unique in US coinage as they have an incuse design, meaning that the art is struck below the field of the coin rather than being entirely raised above the field as a bas relief design like the coins in your pocket. The 1915 mintage of the Indian Head Half Eagle is among the more commonly found today, although it is rare in grades of MS-64 or higher. This piece has not been graded, but is considered in AU condition, and suitable for grading. Diameter is 21.6 mm; contains 8.359 grams of 90/10 gold/copper alloy, which is a gold content of about 0.24187 troy ounces.
