Very nice Gurnsey Photo #87 from his Rocky Mountain Views series. Information printed by the photographer on the back gives the location, Platte Station, Colorado. Great view of eight miners around the giant piles of bullion and ore sacks. Gurnsey published his views at Colorado Springs with his location on Pike's Peak Avenue. Condition of the views and the mount couldn't be much nicer than this. Platte Station was a stage stop along Weston Pass and is now a ghost town. Located just outside of Alma, it was located in Park County. According to ghosttowns.com there are still some building remains and mines located there. This view looks to be circa 1880. 291 mines and mining company's are listed in Park County as operating by Corregan & Lingane so there was plenty of production in the area.
