The last of the muzzle loading revolvers developed by Colonel Colt, the 1862 pocket police and the 1862 pocket navy, first appeared in 1861, just month’s before the inventor’s death on January 10,1862. The silver plated grip frames of these 2nd generation revolvers are identical, as are their serial range,caliber(.36),shots (five shot, rebated cylinder) and barrel length’s 5 ½”. The distinguishing characteristic of the 1862 Pocket Police are it’s fluted cylinder, round barrel and creeping load lever. The 1862 Pocket Navy features a round cylinder,roll-engraving and stagecoach holdup scene. Octagon barrel and hinged loading lever. Approximately 28,000 of the Pocket Police Model and about 47,000 of the Pocket Navy were produced from 1861-1873. They were originally offered in various barrel lengths but only 5 ½ were offered in the 2nd generation production .These models are considered by many collectors as the ultimate in streamlined design by Colt’s factory in the percussion period. Many were later converted to cartridge use. This set of Colt pockets are in as new condition and the fit and finish on the varnished wood grips and the blue and case are as spectacular as only Colt can do. Original first generation Colt’s in this condition would be five figures each. Her is a chance to own a beautiful set of rare Pocket Colts for a fraction of that.
