A signed letter from Alvah Curtis Roebuck, co-founder of Sears, Roebuck & Co., addressed in 1892 to one C.A. McNulty. In 1892, Sears & Roebuck operated as the A. C. Roebuck watch company, a mail-order jewelry firm -- the iconic Sears & Roebuck name would not be adopted until 1893. In the letter, Roebuck discusses a watch he wishes to sell to McNulty, and briefly discusses the business's catalogue: "it is a better watch than I can afford to advertise and sell in my business as to advertise them I would have to get $18.00 or $20.00 each at least." Certainly an interesting sentiment to read about the business that would eventually go on to sell entire houses through its catalogue! The letter is in great condition and comes with its original envelope as well as a few letters from Henry Sears & Company.
