Featherstonhaugh, George William. A Canoe Voyage Up the Minnay Sotor; with an Account of the Lead and Copper Deposits in Wisconsin; of the Gold Region in the Cherokee Country; and Sketches of Popular Manners. Richard Bentley, 1847. This reference is critical in understanding the Wisconsin copper-lead mines and the Georgia gold mines as seen and visited in the mid-1840s, only about 15 years after their discovery. The second volume has much discussion on Pigeon Roost, as well as the discovery site at Dukes Creek. Original source material such as this are exceptionally important in any research library. Two hardbound volumes, rare first edition. Covers of the first volume are detached, and the second volume is in much finer condition. Both volumes contain folded map of the United States region – which have split at the folds – and two lithographs. The map shows the United States from the Atlantic Ocean westward to about Texas and adjacent British territories. City: State: Date: 1847 HWAC# 80236
