This is a heavy weight target rifle complete with scope and false muzzle starter in good condition. Target shooting muzzleloaders was a very popular sport in the 1870's-1890's. This is one of those rifles where the scope was pulled back to meet your eye and the false muzzle loader was used so that no wear would disfigure the muzzle crown. The false muzzle starter is keyed so that all four pins must align with the muzzle to lay flush and at the same time block the front sight from view so that the shooter would not forget to remove it before firing. An interesting accuracy gun that would probably give modern guns a run at accuracy even today. Marked "A.E. Whitemore" with a back-action lock. Beautifully configured walnut stock.
