Fantastic and rare! "The Facts and Figures, With a Brief Description of Mines, Miners, and the Art of Gold-Finding." By Capt. James Steele. Published by The Passenger Department of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway, December, 1897. Map showing the rail route from Chicago to San Francisco across the Western States, 6.5 x 22.5". 60pp. with a handful of illustrations. James W. Steele combines firsthand reports, mining statistics, and anecdotal material to promote the vast mineral wealth still to be extracted across the Western U.S. and Alaska. The book was clearly intended to attract investors, settlers, and prospectors, presenting the West as a land of renewed opportunity amid the Panic of 1893's economic aftermath. 7 x 5" Age discoloration to softcovers and pages. Overall a very nice copy.
