"The property of the Dahlonega Gold Mining Company, formerly known as the Battle Branch Gold Company, consists of 80 acres of mineral land situated on the Etowah river about one mile from the village of Aurora, Georgia; water rights and power, including a dam across the Etowah, a race 750 feet m length and 21 miles of ditches for supplying their own and adjacent mines with water at all seasons; a splendid 10 stamp mill capable of crushing fifteen to twenty tons of ore per day; the Little Giant Hydraulic works which do the work of fifty men; and a tramway for transporting the ore from the mine to the mill. By the aid of their splendid water power the company is enabled to wash all the top dirt, and thoroughly expose the ledge cutting, a channel 100 feet wide by from 100 to 150 feet in depth, and saving every particle of gold in the sluice boxes."
