A Waters 2nd type. Many government contractors made muskets for the US government in the early 19th century. This model is dated 1820 and has an American Eagle over "U.S.". About 10,000 were produced of this 2nd model. Three models, 36,560 total, were produced of the A. Waters between 1817 and 1836 in Millbury, Mass. This musket has been converted to percussion and is 69 caliber black powder. The condition is good for age. Smooth bore is good with some dark spots. Barrel is 42 inches and retains original sling swivels as well as bayonet mounts. Action works fine. This would make a wonderful conversation piece for the fireplace mantel or, with inspection from a reputable gunsmith, a reenactor's prop.
