MS64 (obverse is finer). Thin gold plating over baser gold. Rarity 3. Late state with many reverse cracks. Item 37: By unknown circa 1890. Locke variety Wreath9 Oct 1/4 1854 Indian #8. MS60, some spotting. Gold plated. R5. Item 49: By Joseph circa 1920 Locke variety Wreath10 Oct 1/2 1858 Indian #2, early style wreath. The ANS received one of this variety in 1923. MS63, gold. R5. Denominated California Fractional Gold First made by Joseph Brothers, the older brothers of Nathan Joseph, outlawed in 1864, but continued through 1883. A few varieties were made after 1883, including those made by Herman Kroll.
