Pin badge for the Grand Council of the Commercial Travelers Day, June 12, 1909 at the Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition in Seattle. 45 mm wide, 65 mm long. The Order of United Commercial Travelers of America (UCT) is a fraternal benefit society founded in 1888 by eight traveling salesmen. In 1910, the UCT had a nationwide membership of 60,000. Their special day started with a downtown parade with uniformed marchers showering bottles of carbonated water on the delighted crowd. They continued into the fairgrounds where these special badges allowed them free access to every show. One group, 400 strong, formed a conga line and snaked about making sure everyone knew they were there. A fireworks show at 9 p.m. ended the day.
