Adamite is a zinc arsenate hydroxide mineral which typically occurs in the oxidized or weathered zone above zinc ore occurrences. Pure adamite is colorless, but, the vibrant yellow-green adamite crystal clusters from the Ojuela Mine in Durango, Mexico are considered to be a must-have "classic" for the species. The yellow color in adamite is due to trace amounts of iron. Adamite is strongly fluorescent (bright green)under exposure to both short and long-wave ultraviolet light. Adamite was named after the French mineralogist Gilbert-Joseph Adam (1795-1881). This beautiful specimen has outstanding aesthetics, multiple radiating bundles of individual adamite crystals, strong luster, a bright yellow color, and is in excellent condition.
