Three partial Adams Express shipping receipts plus partial of another, as conserved by the Northeast Document Conservation Service in Andover, Mass. These documents were among the document group recovered from the purser's safe in 2014. These documents would have specified items shipped on the SSCA. While one document is dated 1857, the month is obscured. I New York, Adams Express was a competitor to Wells, Fargo & Co.'s Express. The Adams Express branches in California went broke in 1855, and though the forms state "Great eastern, western and southern Express forwarders", they would have had to contract with a western express to get these goods to California, if that is where they were headed (that information is also obscured.) Other than the Wells Fargo Express treasure box lid and Dement's checkbook for the Wells Fargo Bank, no other express documents were recovered form the SSCA.

Provenance: SS Central America Collection
