Number 124 for 10 shares to George L Church in 1892. Signed by president Walter L Emery and treasurer Fletcher. The outdoors hard rock mining vignette is rather unusual. Two vertical folds and the lower left corner is dog eared. Light folding on the bottom left.12 x 9". Mine was located in New England City in Dade County, Georgia. Dade County is in the far northwest corner of Georgia. This mine or mining district is not named in Yeates. New England City was one of any number of similar post-War developments in the South, conceived by northern investors attracted to its natural resources and abundance of cheap land and labor. The New England Company was chartered by the State of Georgia in November 1888. Its board was dominated by northern men and money, including former Vermont Governor Roswell Farnham, nine other investors from Boston and New Hampshire, and but two from the South, one of them Thomas Lumpkin of Trenton, the Dade County seat. The Company’s lands consisted of “10,000 acres of iron ore lands, 6,000 acres of coal lands and 1,400 acres for a city site.” The city was incorporated in 1890. Although gold would have been a by-product of the coal and iron mines the Addie-May seems to have been primarily a gold mine. The 1897 "Mine, Quarry, and Metallurgical Record" lists two mines in Dade County. The New England Company is listed as an iron mine and the Addie-May as a gold mine.
