Railroad conductor's lantern with intact and unscratched, blue glass globe. The top of the lantern is embossed with // ADLAKE / KERO // and the blue glass globe is embossed // MADE IN U.S.A. //. The lantern stands about 10 inches high, 6.25 inches across at the base, and it is in good condition. The hood is embossed // W.P. RR // for the Western Pacific Railroad. The WPRR was established in 1903 to provide service between Salt Lake City and northern California, as an alternative to the Southern Pacific Railroad. It is NOT the Western Pacific Railroad that was commissioned in 1862 to build the western portion of the transcontinental railroad. That line was absorbed into the Central Pacific RR in 1870. The latter Western Pacific (1903) became known as one of the operators of the California Zephyr that ran between Oakland, California, and Chicago, Illinois. The WPRR was bought by the Union Pacific Railroad in 1983.
