Adobe brick marked FORT CHURCHILL 1860, approx 9-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 3 inches. In June of 2019, the Explore Your Nevada initiative completed work to arrest the decay of the Fort Churchill ruins south of Silver Springs, Nevada. Ceballos Masonry of Carson City, Nevada, used clay, sand, and water from the Fort Churchill site to make 30,000 adobe bricks for this project. Those bricks were not marked as this one is, but we believe it came from a limited-time, special ranger's program at Fort Churchill which gave visitors an opportunity to make their own brick using local materials in a mold that embossed the brick with the pattern you see here. Being adobe, this brick is friable and should not be left outside unprotected or it will experience the same natural erosion that the Fort has seen over decades. It is a poignant commemorative of the history of development in Nevada and the Western US. See photo for details.
