Aegirine is a member of the clinopyroxene group of inosilicates and is a sodium iron silicate. Aegirine occurs as dark green, monoclinic, prismatic crystals. It has a glassy luster and perfect cleavage. Well-formed macro crystal specimens of Aegirine have always been quite rare. However, the alkaline Pegmatites of the Zomba-Malosa complex of Malawi are famous for their unique geology and mineralogy. The pegmatites of Mount Malosa have produced the world's finest Aegirines, with large free standing crystals up to 25 cm tall. This impressive specimen from Mt. Malosa features several sharp, prismatic, dark green crystals to more than 3 cm in length. Dimensions (cm): 6.7 H x 5.8 W x 4 D. Minor repair that is unnoticeable to upper left of specimen. Location: Mount Malosa, Zomba District, Malawi
