This blue enameled-metal sign with white letters, approx 16x12-inches, gives the station signals for the skip that would carry men, equipment, and possibly ore up and down the shaft of the Alaska-Juneau Gold Mine three miles from Juneau, Alaska. At one time, this mine was one of the world's largest gold mines. It's 30-stamp mill was driven by electricity generated by a hydroelectric plant they built on Gold Creek. The mine closed in 1944 because of the labor shortage during World War II. The property is now owned by the Alaska Electric Light & Power Company of Juneau.Geff Pollock Collection
